Digital Humanities: Introduction

What Is (What Are?) Digital Humanities?

Digital humanities (DH) is an area of study and practice that inhabits the intersection of technology and the traditional fields of the humanities, such as literature, art, history, and philosophy. Digital humanists may develop new digital platforms, publish digital editions of texts, examine the presence of social media in our lives, use computation to understand human culture in new ways, or pursue many other approaches. Technology continues to change scholarship and everyday life; DH scholars and students engage with technology by creating new tools and discussing new perspectives.

Scholars, students, librarians, and technologists at Dartmouth are part of a rich, diverse community of practice. Visit Digital Humanities at Dartmouth to learn about people, projects, events, and courses.

The Association for Computers and the Humanities has a DH Questions and Answers page where scholars, technologists, librarians, and others in the field have discussed the question "What Is DH?"
