Earth Sciences: Find Books

A guide to the reference sources and indexes to the journal literature in earth sciences.

Stacks Guide -- Books in Earth Sciences

Search the library catalog by keyword or title for books, journals, and maps, both print and online. The geology collection and related areas of earth sciences are located in Kresge Library, 3rd floor Fairchild Hall. Current issues of journals are in the Kresge current journals reading area, near the reference section. Bound volumes of journals are shelved alphabetically by title in the Kresge stacks.

There are special locations in Kresge for oversized materials, atlases, and USGS geologic and hydrologic maps; please ask, or check this floorplan showing Kresge locations.

Books in earth sciences are shelved by Library of Congress call number in the Kresge stacks. Geology is classed in the QE's, with related areas in the QC's (geophysics, meteorology) and the G's and GB's (geography, geomorphology, hydrology).

Field Trip Guidebooks

Geological field trip guidebooks are a great source of detailed information on the geology of a small area. Search the Geological Guidebooks of North America database to identify guidebooks for a particular geographic area or geologic formation.

Guidebooks from the New England Intercollegiate Geological Conference can be found in the Library Catalog by keyword, author or title from 1971-present; or all grouped together at QE80 .N4 from 1954-1970.
