Art Special Collection Materials at Dartmouth

The Collection

The Art Special Collection includes artists' books, facsimiles, catalogue raisonnes, brittle books, and other rare items.

Access

  • As of 3/17/20 Art Special Materials are unavailable until further notice
  • Items from the Art Special Collection may be requested directly from the Art Librarian. 
  • If the Art Librarian unavailable or the Sherman desk is closed, requests to have items paged may sent to baker.circulation@dartmouth.edu
    • Paging only occurs Monday-Friday between 8am-4pm and items are limited to in library use only Monday-Friday between 8am-4:30pm
    • Please consult the library hours for details.
  • Your ID must be presented to use items from Art Specials, and will be held at the library desk while items are in use.
  • All Art Special items must be used in the Sherman Reference Room only.
  • No food or drink is allowed at tables while using Art Special items.
  • Please use only pencils to take notes when consulting Art Special items.
  • Please consult the library staff about scanning or photocopying each item

Art Special Reserves

  • Faculty may request that Art Special items be set aside for classroom use during a term 
  • They are given a separate flag in the book and shelved on a cart in the Sherman Art Library workroom for easy access by library staff
  • Art Special Collection policies and access apply to these materials
