Citation Resources: Saving PDFs in Zotero

Resources to help you cite sources and manage references.

Using DartBox to Save Full Text

Zotero gives you two options for syncing PDFs across machines. One is to use Zotero's storage, which is limited to 300MB. The other is to use an external service using a protocol called WebDAV, which works with services like Box. You can use your DartBox account to sync your Zotero PDFs using these instructions. Dartmouth's Box service uses your Dartmouth credentials, so there are a couple of extra steps involved than there would be for a personal Box account.

  1. Go to and log in using your Dartmouth credentials
  2. Click on your profile icon/initials in the upper right-hand corner of the page and click on "Account Settings"
  3. In the "Authentication" section of your account settings, set up a password that can be used for external applications (remember this!)
  4. In Zotero, open the preferences pane and navigate to "Sync"
  5. Under "File Sycing," select "Sync attachment files in My Library using WebDAV"
  6. Set the URL to (as in the image below)
  7. Your username will be, and your password will be the one you set up in step 3.
