Limiting to German

LexisNexis

1) You can use the easy search for searching within  individual newspapers:

Type the name of the paper (e..g., Welt, Frankfurter Rundschau) in the Source Title box.

2) Go to the Power Search for a general search for German-language articles.

Select Source Type "Foreign Language News" from pull-down menu.

Limit to Language (left hand column)  after the results have been retrieved

Digitization project for Austrian newspapers (late 19th and early 20th century).

DDR Presse

A major digitization project that covers a large number of historical German-language newspapers, ranging from Argentinisches Wochenblatt to Vossische Zeitung.

Zeitgeschichtliches Archiv
Of interest, in particular, for the period immediately after World War II. Indexes 9 million newspaper clippings. The search is free but there is a fee for obtaining copies of the documents.

German-Language Newspaper Access in North America
Use this guide to find out where a particular newspaper is available. The emphasis is on historical newspaper holdings.
