New York Times: Getting Started

Instructions to access NYT.com

Create Your NYT Account

Activate your Dartmouth-sponsored New York Times membership:

  1. Click here to activate your NYT.com account.
  2. Follow the instructions based on whether you are on-campus or off-campus at the time of activation.
  3. Use your NetID@Dartmouth.edu email address.
  4. Once you have activated your account, you'll be taken to the NYT home page.
  5. Click the link to "Log in" and enter your email address and password.

Your Dartmouth-affiliated NYT account will allow access both on-campus and on other devices outside of the university network.

Already have a NYT account?

If you have an existing (unpaid) NYT account, do not click on "create account".  Click "Already have an account? Log in here" and log in with your existing NYT username / password. This will tie your existing username/password to the Dartmouth Site License.

If you have an existing (paid) NYT account, you will need to cancel it first, before it can be associated with the Dartmouth site license. Cancel your account through customer care:

◦      customercare@nytimes.com / 800-591-9233 / Chat

Once canceled, that will "free up" the username so that it may be associated with the Dartmouth site license. Click "Already have an account? Log in here" and log in with your existing NYT username / password.

Renew your Dartmouth Group Pass NYT account

Your account will be active for one year. After expiration, you may activate a new pass by visiting NYTimes.com/grouppass while connected to the Dartmouth network, and logging in with your existing account.  (Don't create a new account.)

NYT Audio App

Download it today from the iOS App Store!  Included with the Library site license, the app gives you access to reporters reading their own articles, an app-only exclusive "Headlines" show, and NYT podcasts.  Simply sign in with your NYT username and password.  Learn more about it.
