Rauner has numerous first-hand accounts of various campaigns, battles, and even the entire war itself. These include illustrations and maps as well as printed texts and manuscript letters. Some representative examples are personal diaries kept by soldiers during the war, printed memoirs, and drawings or sketches, such as:
- Robert Graves’s memoir Good-bye to all that (Eberhart PR6013.R35 Z5 1929b).
- Siegfried Sassoon’s Memoirs of an infantry officer (Rare D640 .S3415 1930a).
- Muirhead Bone’s drawings in The Western front (Val 827 M76 Y6).
