Find scholarly scientific articles:
- GeoRefDon't be fooled by the "Geo" in the title! this vast database also covers planetary geology, astrobiology and more. Take note of the extensive subject headings describing the contents of articles.
- Web of ScienceMultidisciplinary article database, especially strong in the sciences. Many useful features to explore.
- ScopusSimilar to Web of Science, a multidisciplinary article database with many useful features.
Find scholarly, popular, and news articles:
- Academic Search CompleteAn all-purpose, multidisciplinary database that you may already be familiar with. Contains both scholarly and popular articles.
Review Articles
It's worth a quick look to see whether there's a recent review article on your topic written by leading scientists. Annual Reviews' purpose is to provide a "useful and intelligent synthesis of the primary research literature for a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines." Remember this useful family of review journals if you major in one of the sciences!
Tip: Many article databases like Web of Science also allow you filter to "review articles" that have the same "synthesis of the primary research" quality.
