Application process

Applications due February 13, 2026 (not yet open)

Apply here beginning January 5, 2026 (after reading all information below carefully)

Eligibility:

1. All Dartmouth researchers (graduate students, postdocs, staff, and faculty) are eligible; individuals and groups can apply (one submission per project will be accepted). Undergraduates may be listed as collaborators.

2. Submissions for all recent projects (completed within the past 5 years) that have not previously won this award are welcome. Projects completed more than five years ago (before February 2021) are ineligible. You may reach out to the awards committee, however, if you feel you have a valid reason for an exception.

3. All members of winning teams that received a cash prize last year are not eligible for re-submission this year. Winners may apply for a new project after a one-year layoff (i.e. a researcher who won an OSCARR in 2025 may resubmit for a new project in 2027).

4. Researchers who applied in prior years but did not win are welcome to re-submit the same project if they can demonstrate improvements since their previous submission.

5. Teams should agree how to share the cash prize before submitting the application. (We are unable to award cash prizes to collaborators outside of Dartmouth.)

Other Procedures

1. The organizers of the award will inform all identified project collaborators about their project's submission.

2. The cash prize will be given to the submitting individual, irrespective of whether it's a group submission or an individual submission. It is that individual's responsibility to distribute the prize as agreed upon prior to submitting their project. Reproducible Research @Dartmouth will not be responsible for how/whether the applicant distributes the cash prize.

3. At least one member of each winning project team is expected to participate as an evaluator in the following year.

Award Categories:

1. graduate students (currently enrolled as a graduate student at Dartmouth)

2. early-career researchers (less than five years of post-graduate experience)

3. established scholars (five or more years of post-graduate experience)

Distribution of awards across these categories depends on our applicant pool.

Instructions:

1. You will need the full name of your collaborators at Dartmouth and outside Dartmouth (they will be notified about the entry).

2. An introduction (up to 500 words plus URLs) to how your work aligns with the FAIREST principles.

3. Links to your research work, open access publications, repositories, etc. The application form has space for three urls--if you need to add more please do so in the last section, 'Anything else you would like us to know.'

4. Please note that we will be sharing this information as a part of advertising the Dartmouth OSCARRs.

5. Explore the rubric that expert evaluators from Dartmouth will use to review your submission.

Apply here beginning Jan. 5 2026

OSCARRs @ Dartmouth

OSCARRs Award Ceremony March 5th, 2026

Three $1000 prizes to be won!

Dress to impress!

Thursday, March 5, 12:00pm (Noon) - 2:00pm

Register to attend and hear from our award winners!

Location: The Link (Berry 180A) in the Baker-Berry Library

The top three applicants for the award will be invited to briefly present and share the reproducible or open components of their project. Depending on the applicant pool the organizers will prioritize three categories - graduate students, early-career researchers, and established scholars for the award. There will be an popular audience choice award (non-monetary) during the event. See the 'How to Apply' page for more details.

Review Process: Evaluators from Dartmouth community will use a rubric based on the FAIREST principles to evaluate each submission. We strongly recommend that you review the rubric before submitting your application. Your work doesn't have to meet all the criteria involved. We understand how difficult it is to align with all aspects of the FAIREST principles and this award is an opportunity for all of us at Dartmouth to review our processes to see where we can make improvements with our research workflows. If you have any questions during the process, please reach out to Research.Facilitation@dartmouth.edu.
