Ernst Haeckel - Artforms in Nature: Questions

A research guide accompanying the Ernst Haeckel illustrations exhibit in the Dartmouth library. Each panel of the exhibit asks the viewers to reflect on different aspects of Haeckel's work.

Things to reflect about

1. There are many individuals in the history of Science with controversial beliefs. How do we reflect on their contributions while making sure that the harm they caused and continue to cause isn’t ignored?

2. How does one ensure that the controversial works of individuals are addressed front and center without being sidelined as an inconvenience?

3. Fraudulent practices in science are ongoing. The number of scientific articles retracted by journals due to fraud has been increasing rapidly in the past decade. What are some of the ways in which one can keep track of retracted articles, as well as, labs and scientists that have shown fraudulent practices?
