To access resources from off-campus, you'll need to open a connection to the campus network.
Dartmouth offers two options:
If you're away from campus for the term, you can't use BorrowDirect, but you can still use Interlibrary Loan for articles and book chapters (i.e., short documents that can be scanned).
Can't get VPN software to work on the machine you're using, and don't have access to another college library during your term away?
Start with these freely-accessible bibliographic databases covering anthropology. Use Interlibrary Loan to request cited journal articles & book chapters. [Be sure to set your Interlibrary Loan status to "Off-campus" for your term away.]
Here's an incomplete list of additional freely-accessible resources relevant to anthropology.
Most provide bibliographic citations/abstracts only. Some provide statistical data rather than citations. For a selection of freely-accessible scholarly journals, see the "Directory of Open Access Journals"
Use Interlibrary Loan to request cited journal articles & book chapters.
Take advantage of the resources at your host school and other area libraries. I've also listed a few freely-accessible reference tools.
If you're doing off-campus independent research and will not be affiliated with a local university, your library options are a bit more limited as we can't send you material through the mail.
We encourage you to do as much library research & initial gathering of sources as possible before you leave campus.
