Open Access Publishing Agreements

Are you considering publishing open access? Dartmouth Libraries has Transformative Agreements with certain publishers that allow Dartmouth affiliates to publish their papers Open Access without paying the APC, or pay at a discounted rate, if they are the corresponding author for the paper. Check out the agreements and the journals they cover.

Dartmouth's Read & Publish (Transformative) Agreements
The Dartmouth Libraries support Open Access publication in a variety of ways, including through a growing list of negotiated agreements with publishers. These deals provide full or partial APC coverage for Dartmouth authors who publish Open Access.

The Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) is a unique and extensive index of diverse open access journals from around the world, driven by a growing community, committed to ensuring quality content is freely available online for everyone. This link limits the journals listed to those that cover geology and related sub-disciplines including physical geography, oceanography, environmental science, geophysics, geomagnetism, meteorology, and climatology. Refine your search further via the filters on the left.
AGI's list of Open-Access Journals and Series
GeoRef covers the following journals and series that are openly available on the web. Only journals and series that appear to provide stable open-access to current issues, have multiple issues available for use, and appear to plan to continue to be available in an open manner are included. Journals that require subscriptions to current issues are not included.

AGU's Open Access options
The American Geophysical Union's page on Open Access includes a guide for publishing OA with AGU as well as lists of their Gold OA and Hybrid OA journals. Scroll to the middle of the page and click the drop down arrows next to Gold OA and Hybrid OA to see their options.
EGU's Open Access peer-reviewed journals
View Open Access journal titles, their homepages, and editorial boards for publications from the European Geosciences Union in partnership with Copernicus Publications.
Elsevier's OA journals
This list of Open Access Elsevier journals is subject limited to Earth and Planetary Sciences. Modify the drop down menu at the top to see other options, or search for journals by title or keyword.
Springer-Nature OA and Hybrid Journals
Download the spreadsheets of Gold OA or Hybrid OA journals from Springer-Nature to see journal titles and their corresponding APCs. These lists are not able to be limited by subject, but you can ctrl-F to search for titles when you have downloaded the spreadsheets.

PLOS ONE is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access, online publication that welcomes reports on primary research from any scientific discipline. PLOS ONE is published by the Public Library of Science (PLOS), a nonprofit organization.
Elementa: Science of the Anthropocene
This is a trans-disciplinary, open-access journal committed to the facilitation of collaborative, peer-reviewed research. Elementa comprises six academic domains: Atmospheric Science; Earth and Environmental Science; Ecology; Ocean Science; Sustainable Engineering; and Sustainability Transitions.
Geochemical Transactions
Geochemical Transactions is an open access, peer-reviewed online journal encompassing all aspects of geochemistry. Geochemical Transactions is the official journal of the Geochemistry Division of the American Chemical Society.
Paleontological Contributions
Paleontological Contributions is an online-only, open-access, rapid publication journal published by the Paleontological Institute at the University of Kansas. Original research articles and monographs on all aspects of paleontology or related biological disciplines are welcome.
