Baker-Berry Information & Research Desks: An Abusive Phone Call

An Abusive Phone Call

As of October 2013, there has been a specific abusive caller who many working at the desks have encountered. Though this system was put into place for this particular caller, it's helpful to have this information for any difficult caller.

If he calls again: I have not personally been the recipient of one of his calls but all agree that he’s easy to identify. He often asks for information about other alums, but asks other random (or personal) questions as well, many of which are inappropriate or unanswerable. DON’T try and help him, reason with him, anything at all.

As soon as you have identified him as the abusive caller (apparently it doesn’t take long) tell him politely, “Let me transfer you to someone that can help you with this”, and don’t wait for a response from him, but do take down any identifiable information (he calls from a blocked number so this will typically not be possible).

Hit Transfer and dial 6-4000 (which is the non-emergency Safety & Security number). When they answer, tell them you’re calling from Baker-Berry in regard to the ongoing abusive caller and are transferring him to  Just hit Transfer again and S&S will take it from there. This is very important, it remains time to pass him on to higher authorities.

Once the call has been transferred, please let Greg Potter know (via phone or e-mail) about what happened and if you happened to get any identifying information, feel free to let me know that also.
