We're happy to look into acquiring materials for the library to meet your teaching and research needs. First, check to see if the library already has the title you're looking for. We may have a print version available on our shelves, or perhaps we have an e-version available through an aggregator, rather than the publisher. If we don't have it, you can either request the title through BorrowDirect or Interlibrary Loan, or reach out to your subject librarian to request that they purchase the item.
Alternatively, you can fill out the form linked below. We can often get books, especially books published by major publishers. We can generally get books published by smaller publishers or foreign publishers, but it can take longer to get these, and often they are not available as e-books. Often mass market publishers, smaller publishers, and foreign publishers do not have e-books available for libraries to buy.
There could be a couple of reasons. First, check to make sure you're connected to eduroam if you're on campus, or if you're off campus, that you're connected to the VPN (GlobalProtect). That gets you behind our firewall and allows you to access our resources.
If you're still not able to access it through the publisher, check the library catalog for the article to see if we have access to it through another source, like an aggregator. If you're still not able to access the article after these steps, we likely don't have access to it. You can request it through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Check with your librarian at any stage of this process!
Sometimes. If it’s available on DVD, we can convert the DVD to a streaming file. If it’s a small or independent studio, we can reach out to see if we can get a license. This isn’t always possible. For mainstream films currently in release or only on major streaming platforms, it is usually impossible to get a streaming file. Reach out to your subject librarian with any questions about streaming.
Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other streaming services do not allow libraries to purchase institutional subscriptions. We do have access to certain streaming services, such as Kanopy and Swank Digital Campus.
Yes! You can get access to many major news outlets through the Dartmouth Libraries, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and more. See our guide linked below on how to access news and newspapers through the library, both current and historical.
