Library Resources for Arts & Sciences Faculty

A quick guide for library resources and services that Arts & Sciences faculty need.

I'm teaching and want to put something from the library on reserve for my class. How do I do that?

Look for the email from Baker Reserves that is sent out several weeks before term. The sooner you respond to the request, the sooner your materials are put on reserve. Requests made right before the beginning of term or after the beginning of term may take a while to be processed, especially if it requires the library to purchase or digitize materials. See the links below for more information and instructions on how to put items on reserve.

I'd like my students to learn about using the library. What services do you offer?

The best way for your students to learn about the library is by having a librarian visit your class! A librarian can go over the basics of what the library offers and how students can use it. They can teach sessions on search strategies, critically evaluating sources, using a reference manager and creating bibliographies, and much more. Reach out to your subject librarian to talk more about how a library instruction session might fit into your class!

How else might a librarian support my teaching besides in-classroom instruction?

There are a number of ways we can support your teaching beyond instruction time in the classroom. This includes helping you curate a reading list, purchasing resources that you'll use with your students in class, creating personalized research guides and other asynchronous learning materials for your course, and meeting one on one with your students through research consultations. Reach out to your subject librarian to discuss how we can support your class!
